BACKSTORY
The Original Poster (OP) is a 17-year-old female. Her sister, Gillian, is 34F.
Her sister was rather rebellious as a teenager and essentially annoyed her life down the drain, so as a result, OP’s parents are extra strict with her, despite the fact she has never even given them a reason to be.
WHAT HAPPENED TO OP?
OP was grounded until Christmas with a review at Halloween because she was 20 minutes late home last month.
WHY WAS SHE LATE?
The reason she was late home was because her friend’s mom was driving her and stopped to run into a shop, then refused to explain to her parents why she was late home, and they accused her of being dramatic.
IT’S HER BIRTHDAY
Anyways, the previous day was OP’s birthday.
Her parents asked two weeks beforehand what she wanted and told her a week beforehand that they had gotten it for her.
WHAT DID OP DO?
On Wednesday, OP had forgotten to wash out a tin of Heinz she had made herself before throwing it in the bin, so clearly, she was the devil child.
WHAT DID HER PARENTS DO?
This led to her parents discarding the item they had bought her for her birthday and using that as punishment the next day by surprising her with nothing in front of Gillian.
OP LASHES OUT
She says this was her breaking point, and she lashes out, shouting at Gillian because it realistically is her fault she can’t do anything or go anywhere.
WHAT WAS OP’S THOUGHTS?
OP says Gillian is the reason why she was always grounded, and if she could have kept a note out of her nose at 16, then she wouldn’t be in this position.
WHAT DID OP SAY TO HER PARENTS?
OP told her parents they’re awful people who couldn’t raise their first child right, so now they’re taking it out on her.
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?
Gillian left crying, and OP is now grounded until Easter.
She says that her parents are mad, and her dad is refusing to speak to or eat with her until she gets her act sorted out; she makes the situation worse by telling him he’s a jerk.

OP’S UPDATE
“OP says that she is not her sister’s child. She has literally seen the video of her being born and having a genetic disorder that’s pretty rare, so the idea of her parents and then her sister and some random dude all being carriers is highly unlikely.
LOOK INTO EMANCIPATION
8+ months of grounding for being 20 minutes late and being overwhelmed and upset due to circumstances outside your control that suffocate you. Not a jerk. From a former child in a home similar to yours, I highly suggest you look into emancipation.”
YOU ARE IN TERRIBLE SITUATION
“Listen, you’re in a terrible situation. But it is ABSOLUTELY NOT Gillian’s fault that your parents are abusive. Make no mistake: they are abusing you. I hope you have an adult you trust (a guidance counselor, a teacher, someone) that you can talk with.”
GET OUT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
“Well, I hate to ask this, but are they really your parents? Stupid Reddit has me coming up with crazy stories now.
I’m wondering if your sister is your mom but couldn’t raise you, so the parents did but resent you both for it because their punishments are NOT normal. Honestly, be thankful your dad doesn’t want to talk with you and act like a child.
Enjoy the quiet, and then once you’re 18, change your number and get the heck out of there. They are not parents; they are the wardens, and you’re the prisoner. I’m so sorry.”
