While some dog owners are possessive about their pets, what should you do if you’re not a dog person but their dog is trying to be friendly to you?
The Original Poster (OP) took it to the forum, and asked, “Am I wrong for telling someone I’m not friendly when their dog came up to me?”. We want to hear from you.
BACKSTORY
The Original Poster (OP) and his wife went to a brewery restaurant.
THEY HAD TO CUT THROUGH THE PATIO
Their names were called, and to get to their table indoors, they had to cut through the patio.
A DOG SNIFFED AND CAME UP TO OP
While they were on the go, a lab-type dog came up to OP and started sniffing his ankles.
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?
OP got worked up and asked the pet owner what was going on!
WHAT DID THE PET OWNER SAY?
The pet-owner, like any other pet-owner, said “Don’t worry, our dog is friendly”.
OP SNAPPED
OP snapped and said “I’m not friendly”. They quickly pulled the dog under the table.
DOG-FRIENDLY RESTAURANT
They told OP that he shouldn’t come to a dog-friendly restaurant if he is so uncomfortable around dogs and that he should go somewhere else instead.
OP REPLIED BACK
OP told them that just because the place is dog-friendly, it doesn’t mean that their dog should go up to anyone and everyone. He also said that he didn’t like their dog invading his space.
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?
The pet-owners seemed baffled that someone didn’t like their dog. They told OP to find some other place to walk. OP’s wife told him that although what he said was right, he should have been a little less rude.
Now OP wants to know from the forum if what she did was wrong.
WHAT DO PEOPLE THINK?
“They could have kept the dog closer to them, and could have been a little nicer to them.”, said one user.
They’re Wrong
“A dog in public should not go up to strangers. A person trying to get indoors shouldn’t have to change route because a dog is at one table.”, said another user.
