There is no place for homophobia in our society. Partners should always be there for each other, no matter what.
The Original Poster (OP) took it to the forum, and asked, “Am I wrong for leaving my sister’s wedding early because she kept my husband out of pictures?”. We want to hear from you.
BACKSTORY
OP and his husband Mark are a gay couple. They have been married for the past 7 years. They were visiting OP’s sister’s wedding last weekend.
WHAT HAPPENED AFTER THE CEREMONY?
After the wedding ceremony, OP’s sister Anne wanted to click a picture.
HOW DID SHE WANT THE PICTURE TO BE?
OP’s sister wanted the picture to be in a way where one woman would stand next to one man alternately.
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?
OP and his husband Mark were standing next to each other at the corner of the frame.
WHAT DID ANNE SAY?
Anne said that they were ‘ruining the aesthetic’ of the picture.
WHAT DID THE YOUNGEST SISTER SAY?
The youngest sister was single and she didn’t have a partner. So, she suggested standing between OP and his husband. That way Mark would be able to stay in the frame, and the aesthetic wouldn’t be ruined as well.
WHAT DID ANNE SAY?
Anne wasn’t satisfied with the solution and asked Mark to leave the frame.
MARK MOVED ASIDE
Mark being an introvert, didn’t say much and moved out of the frame quietly. Although he wasn’t vocal about it, he was definitely hurt. OP walked away along with Mark.
WHAT DID OP DO?
OP congratulated Anne and her husband and said goodbye. He left the wedding early and took Mark to a restaurant to cheer him up.
WHAT WAS THEIR FAMILY’S REACTION?
Almost everyone in their family supported Anne and told OP that he was being overdramatic and that he should have not made such a big deal about it.
Now, OP asks if leaving his sister’s wedding in the middle of the celebrations was wrong.
WHAT DO PEOPLE THINK?
“OP was even okay with slotting the other sister in between, which was already pretty insulting when everyone else got to couple up. But his sister was still not okay with it.”
GOOD ON YOU FOR NOT MAKING A SCENE
Good on you for not making a scene at someone else’s wedding but also standing up for your husband. The bride can choose what kind of photos she wants, but you equally have the right to choose to be there or not.”, said one user.
100% HOMOPHOBIA
“100% homophobia even if the sister doesn’t even realize it. If you are fully embracing a family member as LGBTQ+, ‘aesthetic’ of siblings with their partners having 1 couple being 2 gay men would mean nothing.”, said another user.
