A bride who had always dreamed of a fairytale wedding was disappointed to see her niece wearing a white dress to the ceremony. Unable to let go of her anger, the bride edited the niece’s photo to change the color of her dress.
A user asked the forum, is she wrong for having my niece’s dress photoshopped because she wore white to my wedding?
BACK STORY
The Original poster (OP) is a 30-year-old female who got married. It was her dream wedding. OP says that everything went off without a hitch except for a tiny thing; her niece’s dress.
What Was It Like
It was a white, lacy knee-length dress. OP’s niece even wore lace elbow-length gloves.
OP says that it looked just like a wedding dress. OP added that she didn’t say anything to her niece or niece’s parents, who were her brother and SIL at the moment, and also said that she tried her best to ignore it.
OP WAS UPSET
OP got the first drafts back from their photographer, and OP couldn’t stand it when she saw her niece in a white dress standing next to her.
THEY GOT PHOTOSHOPPED
OP’s husband saw her upset and suggested they could pay extra to get OP’s niece’s dress photoshopped to a light blue. They thought it through, and OP says that they went for it since they had some budget left.
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT
They got the final photos back the previous week, and OP feels they looked great. OP feels that her niece wore white and still looked nice.
OP Posted Photos
OP posted some of the photos on social media, and her SIL messaged her, and she was angry that OP photoshopped her niece without checking with her SIL first. OP’s SIL accused OP of thinking her niece was ugly and body-shaming her.
WHAT DID OP SAY
OP also addresses that she did not have her niece’s body photoshopped, only the color of her dress and gloves. And OP says she doesn’t think she is wrong, but this situation has stressed her out.
She asks the forum if she is a jerk.
OP IS NOT WRONG
“If she didn’t want the dress to be photoshopped, she shouldn’t have let her daughter attend a wedding in a lacy white dress! The nerve of that woman!”
SIL MIGHT HAVE PLANNED THIS
“Yeah, SIL was behind this stunt. It’s entirely possible the niece didn’t realize wearing white to a wedding is an absolute no-no, and SIL didn’t ask her to change says everything.
The fact SIL is throwing a hissy fit for changing the color of the dress and trying to manipulate the situation by claiming she’s body-shaming her ( This makes zero sense!) makes me think SIL is jealous of OP or the wedding. She orchestrated this whole thing to ruin the wedding without having to deal with being judged if she had been the one to show up in a white dress (but I bet she wanted to!)
OP, be proactive about explaining why you changed the photos. SIL is going to start making outlandish accusations to your relatives and mutual acquaintances to try to twist the situation and make you look stupid. But you’re not; your SIL is (and possibly the daughter, I’m not sure!).”
YOUR SIL ISNT STUPID
“Not wrong, and your SIL isn’t stupid. She knows why the dress color was photoshopped. Does your SIL dislike you? It is the only reason I could think of why she wouldn’t have told her daughter to change her dress color. Everyone knows only the bride wears white to a wedding.”
