Feeling upset when expectations are let down is usual, but it’s important for people to think about the right moment and setting before expressing their feelings.
The Original Poster (OP) took it to the forum, and asked, “Am I wrong for being angry that there was no alcohol at a wedding?”. We want to hear from you.
BACKSTORY
OP and his wife were invited to attend OP’s best friend’s wedding.
WHAT DID THEY EXPECT?
OP, his wife, and their friends everybody expected that there would be alcohol in the wedding. That is because their whole group of friends keep meeting up for drinks.
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?
OP and his wife booked a hotel near the venue. Then they booked an Uber to reach the venue.
WHAT HAPPENED AT THE VENUE?
When they reached the venue, it was ‘cocktail hour’. They just had soda and water. There wasn’t any alcohol at all.
BRIDE AND GROOM ARRIVED
The bride and groom arrived at the venue. OP’s best friend introduced his wife to his friends.
WHAT DID OP SAY?
OP said “Hi” to his friend’s wife, and then he asked her why there wasn’t any alcohol.
WHAT DID THE BRIDE REPLY?
The bride replied that nobody on her side of the family drinks, and they were the ones paying for the wedding, so there wasn’t any alcohol.
WHAT WAS OP’S REACTION?
OP said that he had expected some drinks and was disappointed when he found out there wasn’t any alcohol. He also said he wouldn’t have come if he had known about it earlier.
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?
The bride got angry and told OP that he had a drinking problem. OP’s best friend also told him he was being rude.
OP reiterated and said that he wasted all his money for nothing. The bride then asked OP to leave. OP is now confused and wants to know if he behaved like a jerk.
WHAT DO PEOPLE THINK?
“You said this to someone, supposedly your best friend at his wedding? What is wrong with you? I hope he finds some better friends now!”, said one user.
THEY SHOULD HAVE TOLD
“I absolutely agree they should have told everyone ahead of time that there would be no alcohol but the timing of him bringing this up and also saying he may not have come at all, is absolutely awful”, said another user.
