BACKSTORY
OP’s friend, Alice, and her husband have been trying for a baby for about three years. OP doesn’t have kids, and that has never caused a problem in her relationship with Alice.
THEY OFTEN JOKED ABOUT THEIR DIFFERENCES
They often joked about this difference, with OP telling her that she’d miss all the disposable income when she’d have kids and her comparing OP’s dog to a human kid. Neither of them got offended with these jokes, and it was all in good fun.
LUNCH
A few days ago, Alice, OP, and a few other friends went out to have lunch.
ALICE MADE AN ANNOUNCEMENT
While having lunch, Alice announced that she was pregnant.
WHAT DID OP SAY?
While everyone else congratulated Alice, OP jokingly said, “I’m so sorry. Let me know if you need a ride to the clinic.”
ALICE FLIPPED
After OP’s remark, Alice snapped and called OP insensitive.
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?
OP told her that she was joking, but Alice wouldn’t hear it and she ended up leaving. Alice hasn’t responded to any of OP’s texts and calls ever since.

OP IS CONFUSED
OP understood that her comment would come off as rude if she said it to a stranger, but Alice was supposed to know her better and this is how they joke with each other.
OP is confused if she was being insensitive or Alice was being too sensitive. Now OP wants to know if what he did was wrong.
