BACK STORY
The original poster ( OP ) (f18) has moderate hearing loss. She lost hearing over the years with many ear-related incidents.
She wears hearing aids to hear people talk sometimes, but she mainly uses them at school.
WHAT DID OP DO?
When she starts a school year, she tells the teacher that she wears hearing aids, and they normally put her next to their desks so she can hear them without the use of her hearing aids.
FRUSTRATED WITH A GIRL IN HER CLASS
In one of her classes, she has a girl named Lily
OP says that Lily likes to yell at people to get them to come to her instead of getting up to talk to them. No matter who tells her to stop, she won’t.
TEACHER’S GAVE UP
The teacher stopped trying to get her to stop a long time ago.
SHE WANTED TO TAKE NOTES
She says that in that class, they have to take notes. Lily missed notes day, and the teacher told her to find someone with notes. No one near her wanted to give her the notes so she chose OP.
LILY BEGAN YELLING
OP was on the opposite side of the room, and Lily began yelling at her. She says that Lily has done this all year, and it was annoying.
SHE KEPT DOING HER WORK
She didn’t look at Lily. She just kept working on other schoolwork. She wasn’t going to give her special treatment because she was lazy.
SHE HAS NO MOBILITY ISSUES
OP says that Lily had no mobility issues. She just doesn’t want to walk to other people.
SHE GOT FRUSTRATED
Lily kept getting louder and more frustrated that OP wasn’t going to her.
SHE WAS MAD AT OP
Lily yelled at her for 10 minutes before she stood up and walked over to me. She was very mad at OP and kept saying that it was stupid that OP didn’t go to her and that she shouldn’t have to stand up.
OP says that she very loudly asked, “What are you deaf?”
MADE A FUZZ
She says that the entire class was watching them, and she had no idea where the teacher was.
OP WEARING HEARING AID
OP slowly turned to her before taking out the case that had her hearing aids in it and making a show of putting them in, and she then very loudly asked her, “What?”
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?
She says that Lily got very red in the face and then turned around and walked back to her seat.
OP’S SISTER’S OPINION
OP says that no one in that class knew she wore hearing aids because her hair covers them. Her sister said it was mean of her to do that to her because she didn’t know, and she wasn’t wearing her hearing aids, and she could hear her because she was very loud.
So, OP asks if she is a jerk.
