When a couple shares a home, both of them should help out with chores in a fair and equal way.
The Original Poster (OP) took it to the forum, and asked “Am I wrong for not washing my husband’s popcorn bucket?”. We want to hear from you.
BACKSTORY
OP’s husband likes to buy a popcorn bucket each year from AMC and stops by on occasion to get it filled.
OP’S HOUSEHOLD DUTIES
In terms of household chores, OP does – dishwashing, laundry for 4 people, cleaning, lawn care (2.8 acres), and half of the childcare.
OP also home-schooled their two kids (4-year-old and 7-year-old) for 2 years (2020-2021). She also does the grocery shopping, cooks a meal most nights for the 4 of them, and cleans up after cooking.
OP’S HUSBAND’S HOUSEHOLD DUTIES
Her husband, on the other hand, is responsible for fixing household technology when it goes down, feeding the animals (2 dogs and 2 cats), takes garbage and recycling to the curb once a week.
OP DOESN’T LIKE POPCORN
OP doesn’t like to eat popcorn, so she never eats it when her husband gets his bucket filled.
OP’S HUSBAND GOT HIS BUCKET FILLED
OP’s husband got his bucket filled the other day and finally finished eating the popcorn about 4 days later and placed it in the sink.
WHAT DID OP DO?
OP placed it back on the counter in order to have room to wash the other dishes, and the bucket ends up back in the sink every day.
WHAT DID OP’S HUSBAND SAY
After continuing this for a few days, OP’s husband said, “Oh, so you’re not going to wash the bucket?”
WHAT DID OP DO?
OP didn’t say anything. She just put it back on the counter and walked away. He also didn’t wash it. She is clueless about whether she is wrong for not washing her husband’s bucket.
Now OP wants to know if what she did is wrong.
WHAT DO PEOPLE THINK?
“Why is it always the men that have the once-a-week chores and then act like it’s equal? OP the split is like 90:10. Your husband is lazy!”, said one user.
HE DOES NOT EVEN HAVE CHORES
“Fixing technology when it goes down is not a chore as it doesn’t have to be done at any regular interval.”, said another user.
ARE HIS HANDS BROKEN?
“Are his hands broken? Can’t he wash the bowl himself?”
