Some movies are instant hits, becoming classics overnight, while others may take their time to find their audience, becoming cult classics over time.
What is your favorite cult classic movie from the 90s? Below are the top responses:
Tremors
“The entire series is my guilty pleasure. The first one is actually a great movie; the rest are also great, but “B” movie is great!” Said one.
“Movie should have won an Oscar for best casting if that’s a thing.” Another added.
Army of Darkness
“Evil Dead 2 is great, but Army of Darkness is my favorite,” said one.
“The others are horror movies, and the second has some comic moments. Army of Darkness is a full-on comedy.” Another replied.
Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead
“Dishes are done, man.” It is a weekly quote in my house, even if it’s not the exact line. iykyk” Said one.
“I connected to that movie in many ways besides the dead babysitter.” Another added.
The Craft
“Sometimes I’ll be sitting around, and all of a sudden my brain goes “I bind you, Nancy, from doing harm, harm against other people and harm against yourself.” Why? I don’t know, but I’ll repeat it a half dozen times haha.”
“Yesss. Such a great movie and an amazing soundtrack. I still have the Letters to Cleo cover of Dangerous Type in regular rotation.”
Office Space
“Office space holds up so well. The technology has changed, but the people have not.” Said one
“Man, I just watched that movie tonight for the first time in like 10-15 years. Holds up.
So many quotable lines and iconic scenes. I love when Peter shows up to the evaluation with the Bobs, just not giving a damn, and they end up loving him. Great movie.” Another added.
So I Married An Axe Murderer
“So I married an axe murderer. I had the piper at my wedding play “Do you think I’m sexy” as my bride and I left the altar.” Said one.
“I have an older Scottish friend. She thinks this movie is funnier than I do. There are Scottish jokes that send her into fits of laughter. I love the movie but she adores it.” Another added.
Drop Dead Gorgeous
“Drop Dead Gorgeous. It’s perfection,” said one.
“I made my mom watch this with me when I was ten at a drive-in. She laughed too much to be uncomfortable.” Another added.
The Crow and Dazed and Confused
“I just loved the crow when I was an angsty teenager. Watched it for the first time in years a few years ago. It’s an entire movie of a ghost and an incestuous mob boss desperately trying to out goth each other.”
Romy And Michele’s High School Reunion.
“This movie was so much fun because it was EXACTLY like my hs reunion except for the rich guy.”
“Just the dance scene at the end, I laugh so hard I cry tears!!”
Dogma
“The whole Walrus and the Carpenter scene in the airport still sits with me. One of Matt Damon’s better performances.”
“I say this as a big fan of the man, this is easily Kevin Smith’s finest work.”
Edward Scissorhands (1990)
“I think the ending of this movie was the first movie as an adult that made me tear up a bit. It’s a sweet and sad fairy tale.”
“This movie is beyond brilliant. I don’t know where this genius comes from, but I wish I had a fraction of it.”
Starship Troopers
“Starship Troopers. Just an all around great campy alien shoot-em-up.”
“First time I watched it I was too young to understand the genius of its humor.”
Event Horizon
“Event Horizon (1997). Such a fun watch even though it’s not perfect,” said one.
“That movie might be my favorite example of horror done right in which everyone makes good choices, and the horror descends on them regardless. It’s up there with “It Follows” and “The Thing” as How to do horror right.” Another added.
