The Original Poster (OP) took it to the forum, and asked “Am I wrong for having my daughter do ‘guy’ chores and for telling my wife to stop babying her?”. We want to know from you.
BACKSTORY
OP has four step kids with his wife. The biological dad isn’t involved at all, so OP is pretty close to the kids. He considers them his own and they call him “dad”.
STEREOTYPICAL GUY CHORES
The two older kids are boys and OP taught them stereotypical guy chores, like fixing cars, cutting grass, etc. They can also do household chores.
WHAT DID OP TEACH HIS DAUGHTER
OP’s daughter, Annie, just turned 11. When she was 10, OP started teaching her more hands-off stuff.
SHE IS BIGGER NOW
Now she is bigger and stronger, OP gave Annie her first lesson on cutting the grass and how a lawnmower works.
OP WAS WORRIED
Initially, OP was a little worried that Annie might lose control over the mower, as she is still short.
OP IS PROUD OF ANNIE
All of his fears were conquered when Annie did the whole yard single-handedly. OP was quite proud of her as well.
WIFE THREW A FIT
OP’s wife wasn’t very happy about the situation. She threw a fit. She was unhappy about teaching Annie “guy” chores, especially because she is still young.
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?
OP told his wife that she needed to stop babying Annie and that Annie needed to learn how things work.
SHE LEFT
OP’s wife got very angry and left. Now OP wants to know if what he did is wrong.
