Growing up with an absent, fickle-minded, alcoholic, and abusive parent can be a deeply traumatic experience.

An internet user recently shared an incident, saying, “My homeless dad used me in his money scheme, so I took it all.” Read on to know what exactly happened.

Okay, so the homeless guy is technically the Original Poster’s (OP’s) dad. OP’s dad was only in his life actively from ages 0-7 and in that time gave him a ton of trauma.

“He was a hardcore alcoholic manipulator and a lot of other things I can’t say.”, says OP.

OP’s mom being the fighter she is, left him and for a short bit, they did weekends at his place. It was a never-ending cycle of him drinking being an idiot and then buying them over with animals and gifts.

After getting several DUIs, unpaid child support and a few child endangerment cases, he got up and left to avoid going to jail.

What Does Op Say

“Like disappeared, left the animals locked in the house that he abandoned, and shut off his phone. Every few months or so he would randomly show up at my school drunk and crying with gifts in hand or leave notes on our door.

My school literally had to implement a safety plan because my mom was scared he would take me. That stopped and I didn’t hear from him for about 13 years.”, says OP.

When OP was 20, OP’s dad messaged him on Facebook saying he would love to get to know him and asking if there was anything he needed financially. OP’s initial response (sick to his stomach and crying) quickly turned to anger.

“I was broke and really could use the money and I mean he owed me right? I told him I would meet and needed money for rent. When I saw him my stomach turned. He looked like the crazy guy you see on the side of the road begging for money.

He really didn’t make much sense, just talked a lot of nonsense about my mom saying she was a liar and turned us against him and mumbled nonsense.”, says OP.

OP’s Uncle Entered The Chat

Apparently, OP’s dad’s brother (OP’s uncle whom he has never had a relationship with) would no longer give him money but would wire transfer his money for me.

He told his brother OP needed 1500 and told OP he would take 500 and give him 1000. His burner phone ran out of minutes so one of the calls to his brother was made from OP’s phone.

What Happened Next

“Of course, he didn’t have an ID or anything so I would need to pick it up with him. When someone wires you money they get a code then give you the code and voila you get the money!

My dad wouldn’t give me the code until we were physically at the place to pick it up, which we planned to do the following morning.”, says OP.

The Next Morning

The next morning, OP decided to text his uncle since OP now had his number and asked him directly for the code. OP got the code, picked up the money, and blocked his dad. OP’s dad made sure to leave him some deranged voicemails about how he is such an idiot to do this to him!

“He pretty much used me to get money from his brother. If he really wanted to be in my life he would have taken the proper steps to do so and change but he never did. Not denying what I did wasn’t just nonsense but done to screw my dad!”, says OP.

Now OP asks if he is a jerk for doing this to his dad.

You Just Honored Your Uncle’s Wishes

“Don’t worry about it. Your Uncle would only send money for you. You just honored his wishes by taking the money. There’s no doubt it’s better in your hands than your Dad’s.”

You Should Try To Get In Touch With Your Uncle

“Please at least get to know this uncle someday. It sounds like he supports your life and I’m sure he’d be happy to get to know you.

Let it be awkward, let it be sad. This man is willfully giving you money and has no obligation to.

Granted he could be just like your dad, but I feel like he would be pretty cool to know.”

You Gotta Keep A Check On Him

“Better call your uncle and warn him too. I’m glad you got the money. But do beware if your bio father knows where you work or live, he may keep harassing you for the money. Just keep a lookout, don’t have to be paranoid, he won’t be able to do any clever schemes on you.”

Please Thank Your Uncle

“Please thank your uncle and tell him not to send your father money on your behalf. Uncles can be a great source of fatherly support (not just monetarily) for those of us with difficult fathers.”

It’s Just The Beginning Of Long Overdue Justice

“I wouldn’t call this petty, I’d call it the beginning of long overdue justice. Well done OP, sorry you have an un-supporting father and hope you have a family of choice who treats you well.”
