We all have different likes and dislikes, and that’s okay. Just because someone doesn’t like the same things as you doesn’t mean they’re wrong.
The Original Poster (OP) took it to the forum, and asked “Am I wrong for kicking my sister-in-law out for making my drunk husband feel bad?”. We want to know from you.
BACKSTORY
OP’s sister-in-law was staying over at her place along with her family for an entire week. There was a family funeral coming up, and there were no hotels available.
OP and her family live in a big farmhouse, so they allowed her sister-in-law and her family to stay with them.
A LITTLE ABOUT OP’S SISTER-IN-LAW
OP’s sister-in-law and OP’s husband have different fathers. OP’s sister-in-law’s father was an alcoholic. He died from liver failure, and since then OP’s sister-in-law loses it whenever she sees someone drinking.
OP’S HUSBAND WENT OUT TO PARTY
OP’s husband had gone out to celebrate with his friends at a bar. The reason for the celebration was their welcoming their first daughter into this world in about a month.
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?
OP’s husband returned from the party drunk. He was thrilled and was singing the entire time.
He entered the house and started dancing and singing along with his pregnant wife, and they were literally having a beautiful moment together.
WHAT DID THE SISTER-IN-LAW DO?
The sister-in-law suddenly interfered with their moment, and started lecturing OP’s husband. She told him that he would just end up like her father who died for being an alcoholic.
OP’S HUSBAND STARTED CRYING
While getting lectured by his sister, OP’s husband became extremely upset and started crying. He was feeling terrible and was completely heartbroken.
WHAT DID OP DO?
Seeing her husband cry, OP lost it and told her sister-in-law “How would he turn out just like your father, when he isn’t even his son?”.
OP ASKED HER TO LEAVE
OP asked her sister-in-law to leave and find a place to stay immediately. OP never said that her sister-in-law’s family would also have to leave. She just asked her sister-in-law to leave.
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?
OP’s sister-in-law woke her husband and kids up and left with them. The entire family got to know about this and everyone had been blaming OP and her husband for this.
They think that her husband shouldn’t have drunk that day considering his sister’s trauma, and that OP shouldn’t have kicked them out either.
Now OP asks the forum if she is a jerk for asking her sister to leave after she interrupted her moment with her husband.
WHAT DO PEOPLE THINK?
“You’re not wrong. Not even a tiny bit. You’re the type of partner that a guy would be lucky to have. You let him go and hang with his buddies to celebrate, you celebrated with him when he came home happy drunk, and you defended him fiercely when he needed it.”
HE DOES NOT HAVE A PROBLEM
It is also obvious he doesn’t have a drinking problem, that he just had fun RESPONSIBLY, so your SIL needs to get some help with her very obvious mental issues and not equate one night of your husband having fun to what her dad was.
