Some people DO have a weird obsession for wedding dresses but this is some crazy next-level stuff!
An internet user asked, “Am I a jerk for giving my future-mother-in-law (FMIL) 3 days to pay me for a new wedding dress or else I will show the family a photo of her wearing it?”. Read on to know what exactly happened.
Backstory
So, the Original Poster (OP) is getting married to her fiance soon. She bought her wedding dress weeks ago. His mom (OP’s FMIL) kept pestering him about trying it on but OP firmly refused.
OP Shut It Down
OP finally shut it down after her FMIL offered her 100$ to let her try it on. Her reasoning for persisting so much? She says it’s because of her “love” for wedding dresses and her obsession with them.
What Happened Yesterday?
Fast forward to yesterday, OP came home from work early and she found her fiance at home. He freaked out after seeing OP and tried to prevent her from going into OP’s room while trying to text somebody on his phone.
OP Was Shocked
OP opened the door and was shocked to see his mom standing there wearing OP’s dress. OP instantly pulled out her phone and took a photo of her in it.
What Did OP Do Next?
OP’s fiance and her FMIL freaked out after she told her that she needed to pay her for a new dress in 3 days or else OP would show the whole family the photo.
She started crying and then left and OP’s fiance blew up at her saying she couldn’t be serious and that she overreacted because his mom just wanted to try the dress on, no harm done.
How Did OP Feel?
OP refused to listen to him because, in her opinion, the dress should only be worn by the bride and the bride only.
“Quite frankly, I felt disgusted looking at the dress again, I don’t want it anymore and so I think it’s fair that she pays me after she ruined it for me.”, says OP.
The Fight Continues
OP’s fiance yelled at her and told her to wake up and stop treating his mom like that as if she was an enemy. They had a fight after he failed to get OP to back down and he’s been staying with his mom since then.
“I felt awful, but I spent 3k on this dress and worked hard to get it. I can’t stand looking at it, but people in my family think I’m escalating things and risking my relationship with not only FMIL but my fiance as well. Am I a jerk?”, asks OP.
OP, You Deserve Better
“Think about it. Your fiance wanted to see his mom in your wedding dress first?
Never compete with a mother to win over a mama boy. You deserve better.
Not the jerk. This will be your life if you stay with this guy. She’ll come to honeymoons, vacation, delivery room, all these will be the battles you fight both of them on.”
Get Rid Of This Guy
“Not the jerk. This is some weird psychological nonsense. Return the dress, and get rid of this guy.
She’s going to want to steal other things from you in the future. Whether that be pregnancy announcements, interfering in your parenting, brainwashing your kids – heck, is she going to want to wear your lingerie too??
She is sick in the head. Your fiancé is a jerk for going along with it.”
Such A Mama’s Boy!
“Not the jerk, but I’m concerned about you planning to go through with the marriage. It’s pretty obvious he was in on it and had no respect for your wishes even after you said no.
Plus, he seems quite a mommy’s boy. Don’t marry him! He completely disregarded your wishes for hers!”
He’s Already Married
“Not the jerk. Get the money from her and then send the photo to everyone when you announce your break up.
Your fiancé can’t marry you, he already is married to his mom.”
You Really Wanna Do This?
“Not the jerk but honestly don’t ask for money. He stood guard while his mom tried on your dress, do you really wanna get stuck in a relationship like this?
Show the photo to everyone, cancel the wedding and dump him. You deserve better than that.”
