Texting often leads to spelling mistakes, which her husband found unacceptable, even in a grocery list. A user asked the forum, “Am I a jerk for ‘ruining’ dinner over a spelling mistake?”. Read the complete story to know what happened.
BACKSTORY
The Original Poster (OP) (25f) types very fast on her phone and sometimes has spelling errors/grammar mistakes, but as this is a casual text chat, she doesn’t think it’s that important.
She says she just needs the person to send a message to understand what she means.
SHE DOUBLE-CHECKS WHILE TEXTING HER HUSBAND
She added that she knows it irritates her husband, as he has talked to her about it before, and for him, she usually double-checks her texts, but last night it slipped her mind.
WHAT DID OP DO?
She texted her husband a shopping list as her SIL and her family were coming for dinner and asked him to get some things after work.
As she typed quickly, she had written “coconut mlik” instead of “coconut milk”.
She says that she was making thai green curry, but she realized she didn’t have a tin at home and made the curry before her husband was back.
WHAT WERE HER THOUGHTS?
She just needed to add the coconut milk and reheat it for when her in-laws would come.
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?
When he got home, she realized he had brought everything she had put on the list except the coconut milk.
WHAT DID HER HUSBAND SAY?
She got annoyed when asked why he didn’t bring that, and he said he couldn’t understand what she meant and that she should check her spelling next time before sending a text.
WHAT DID OP DO?
She then told her husband to figure out what they were serving SIL because it wasn’t Thai green curry as he didn’t bring the coconut milk.
WHAT WAS HER HUSBAND’S REACTION?
She left her husband to figure out dinner, and he got them all takeout instead, which he was upset about doing as he had a hard day at work and she was at home.
Now OP asks if she is jerk.
YOUR HUSBAND IS MAKING UNNECESSARY DRAMA
“Not a jerk. Is your husband stupid? What other word could ‘mlik’ mean?
Kidding, he’s not stupid; he’s just being unnecessarily petty.”
HE MIGHT HAVE CALLED OR TEXTED BACK
“If he didn’t understand the list, he could have texted you back or called you to ask. He ruined dinner just to be petty, and you did your best.”
