“There was a gyro I had in Athens on a trip in high school. Years later, I returned to study abroad, retraced my steps, and found it again. It remains utterly incredible. I am trying to remember the name of the place!

“A straightforward and quite bland soup with meat and veg. It’s also served in neighboring countries, but each has variations, and I liked the Tajik version. I found it to be a warm, filling comfort food.”

“The maple bacon poutine at La Belle Patate in Vancouver. On the way home from Mexico, I stopped in Vancouver for a day, where I had hundreds of unique and memorable dishes.
I figured I’d try poutine while in Canada, and I got the most stereotypically Canadian version of Poutine I could find. It looked like garbage, but oh my god, the taste. I was so unprepared for it. I promptly forgot everything I ate in Mexico. It still haunts my dreams.”
SHRIMP IN MEXICO
“Shrimp as big as my hand fresh off the fishing boat in Mexico. We tried to order off the menu, but the waiter just kept shaking his head and saying,
” no, no, shrimp, you want shrimp.”
I have never tasted shrimp like that.”

“Indonesia, those Warungs have the best food fresh everything and seasoned to perfection.”

“Gyro meat that is actual chunks of meat on the spit, rather than the ground-up bologna-like gyro meat we get in the US and most other places.
And then all other types of Greek food in Greece. Fantastic!”
PANI PURI IN INDIA
“The crunch shell, the yummy filling, and the flavor burst of the water. Unreal sensory experience in every way. And like at the stalls at the side of the road where you are unsure if you will get sick after. Slaps SO hard.”
ITALIAN FOOD
“All the food in Italy, but you have to know what to order in each area so you can feast on the food specific to those areas where it is grown or has been made for hundreds of years with love. Massimo Bottura’s Francesechetta 58 in Modena is the best restaurant I’ve ever eaten.
My favorite food region in Italy is the Emilia Romagna region. I love prosciutto di parma, parmigiana reggiano, balsamic vinegar, their lasagna and so much more.”
FISH AND CHIPS IN THE UK
