We often tend to underestimate ourselves and self-sabotage. It ruins the peace and happiness of our life.

A user asked the forum, “What is something people tend to be ashamed of but shouldn’t be?” Here are the top responses.

NOT BEING FULLY DRESSED

Clear expressions of intense discomfort and fear. Troubled by bad news, she's in turmoil, urgently needing assistance and solutions

“As a paramedic, I can’t even recall the number of people who have apologized for not being fully dressed when we show up. 9/10 of these are older adults who fell and couldn’t get up or people so sick/incapacitated that they physically couldn’t get dressed.

  1. It’s nothing to be embarrassed about; we genuinely don’t care and will forget it sooner than you think.
  2. You very likely don’t have anything we haven’t seen before.
  3. Yes, if you happen to be covered in excrement, urine, or vomit, it does make the whole situation a bit worse, but it’s nothing we haven’t dealt with. You aren’t the first and won’t be the last; it’s nothing to feel wrong about.”

MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES

“Mental health issues. Nobody should ever be ashamed of mental health struggles.

Unfortunately, people love to say how supportive they are until things hit the fan. Then nobody wants to touch you with a 10-foot pole because you acted what they considered ‘crazy.’

I’m a millennial, so we all love to say how progressively we think of mental health, yet when we go sideways with a friend or family member, people seem to change their minds.”

“Being lazy sometimes. Almost everyone is. But all the time, people try to justify, rationalize, or hide it. When it’s nothing to be ashamed of and super normal, everyone’s tired, we should be able to lay around until noon or spend the day video gaming or watching TV when we have the time and no other obligations.”

“Speaking Spanish with a super gringo accent. Yes, I do speak for all of us. You don’t understand how much it means to us that you would try. I applaud you every single time.

You have a better attitude than half my family who don’t speak Spanish because they’re not going to sound like they’re from Mexico, so they don’t try. Look at how much they miss out by having a bad attitude- not you, though. You get it. I love you for that.

People like you give me hope, and since I’m half-white- you make me proud of us, too. Nobody expects you to sound like you’re from Mexico; we like you the way you are. Everybody has an accent, anyway. You should be proud of yourself because that’s like some super anti-racist thing to do.”

“Losing a job. It happens to many people. We aren’t perfect, and life can get in the way of work performance, company politics, bad coworkers and managers, etc. Overall, companies are rarely forgiving. So, forgive yourself and move past it. It’s a setback, that’s all.”
