BACKSTORY
A few days ago, OP and her boyfriend were at a party.
HOW LONG THEY HAVE BEEN TOGETHER?
OP and her boyfriend have been together for more than a year now. They celebrated their first anniversary three weeks ago.
WHAT DID THE FRIENDS ASK?
At the party, one of the friends asked OP’s boyfriend about his degree, work, etc.
WHICH DEGREE DOES HE HAVE?
OP’s boyfriend has a degree in African languages, and he works at a non-profit organization.
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?
OP was drunk, and she jokingly told her friends that her boyfriend’s degree is totally useless as he doesn’t make much money at his job.
HER FRIENDS LAUGHED
Although most of her friends laughed after hearing OP’s response, one of her friends told her that what she said was awful and insensitive.
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?
OP’s boyfriend wasn’t quite happy about this comment either. Ever since that party incident, he has been cold and distant.
Now OP wants to know if what she did was wrong.

“It’s always fascinating to me when people don’t realize when they put their partners down, they are the ones who look bad.
It was probably just awkward laughter that you received, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if it was genuine and OP’s friends are all like her.”
IT IS TRULY AWFUL
“I get so triggered being around couples like that. It is truly awful. I love it when couples build each other up.”
