Is it common to pee in the shower? Not everyone agrees!
An internet user asked, “Am I a jerk for peeing in my friend’s shower?”. Read on to know what exactly happened.
Backstory:
The Original Poster (OP) (22FtM) was staying at a friend’s place a few months ago over his spring break. Let’s call her Natalie (23F).
Natalie and OP have been friends for a while, but they haven’t been able to hang out as much since she graduated last year and has been working.
“This was my first time seeing her new place, and our first time spending the night together (before anyone gets the wrong idea, there are absolutely no romantic or intimate feelings between us).”, says OP.
OP’s Not-So-Unusual Peeing Habit
Now, as a guy without genitals, OP is unable to enjoy the wonders of peeing standing up most of the time. STPs scare him and so he simply sits. However, when OP showers, he can pee however he’d like and it just goes down the drain and washes off his leg if he aims badly!
What Does OP Say
“I shower every night before bed and I basically always pee, it’s just really satisfying for me. I don’t really talk to my friends about my habits, but my whole family pees in the shower as well and I just assumed it was normal.”, says OP.
What Happened Last Week
Last week, OP and Natalie were hanging out with some of their friends. Somehow, they started talking about peeing, and so of course, peeing in the shower came up.
Many of OP’s friends agreed with him that it’s so nice to be able to stand for once, and many of his friends even agreed as well.
“However, not everyone felt that way, and there was a bit of an awkward silence afterwards.”, says OP.&
Natalie Confronted OP
Natalie approached OP later and nervously asked him if he had peed in her shower, and OP said yes. She got really quiet and the whole thing got really awkward. She kind of shuffled away and they sort of avoided each other the rest of the evening.
Some Time Later
Later, one of their mutual friends texted OP to tell him Natalie was really uncomfortable to learn that OP peed in her shower, and she was reconsidering whether she would ever let him stay with her again.
“I texted her about it directly and apologized, but she hasn’t replied yet. So, am I a jerk for peeing in her shower?”, asks OP.
This Was Disrespectful
“You’re the jerk. What you do in your home is not what you necessarily do in another person’s home. This was disrespectful.”
Showers Are Meant To Get Dirty
“Not the jerk. Showers are meant to get dirty because you’re washing the dirt off of you into them. Your friend can always sanitize the shower after guests leave if she feels strongly about it.
For people who think peeing in the shower is gross, I wonder where they think period blood goes when menstruating people shower. And when people wash their butts all those germs are going in the shower too.”
You Can’t Assume Everyone Does That!
“You’re the jerk. You can’t assume everyone pees in their shower. I don’t do that, and if I found out my friend did that, I’d be so annoyed. Do that in your own shower, and use the toilet when you are at other people’s homes.”
It’s A Fairly Normal Thing For Guys
“Not the jerk because it’s a fairly normal thing for guys to do. That being said, perhaps a little inconsiderate and probably worth an apology. Perhaps in future, it might be worth not mentioning that you did it in a friend’s bathroom. Or perhaps refraining from doing it in a shower other than your own.
So yeah, not really a jerk move but hey you live and learn. So good luck in your future peeing endeavors!!”
It’s A Shower, It’s Meant To Wash It All Away!
“Not the jerk, She was already okay with you using her shower, so she was aware that your germs etc. would be washed away there. Peeing in the shower is so normal I wouldn’t even bat an eye if you told me you peed in mine. It’s a shower, it’s meant to wash and clean itself AND the user. (Which doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t wash your shower, it does get dirty)”
