Says, “It’s Both Their Baby”. Should The Ex-Husband Give In?

Maintaining a good relationship with an ex after a divorce can be challenging and frustrating, especially when you’re both dealing with a sick dog. A user asked a forum, Am I wrong for refusing to help with my ex- dog’s vet bills.

BACK STORY

"Attractive

The original poster’s ( OP ) ex-wife wanted a purebred dog as a pet when they were on good terms during their marriage.

So, OP took her to a rescue dog, but her wife refused. And again, OP took her wife to adopt a mutt as it was the healthiest bread. But OP’s wife again refused and wanted a breed famously bad at breathing.

WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?

"confused

As OP could afford it, he brought the dog his wife wanted. Since OP and her wife brought that dog into their home, it was always her but never “their” dog.

OP only takes the dog for a walk when unpleasant weather is outside. OP also paid for all the vet bills and other vet-related bills.

THEY GOT DIVORCED!

Then, OP and her wife got divorced, and she took the dog with her. As they didn’t have a child, there was no child support.

OP’s ex-wife told him that the dog was sick and needs expensive surgery for six months. OP and her wife treated the dog like a baby. So, she wanted OP to pay for the operation, but OP refused to pay for the dog.

OP’s ex-wife got angry and started contacting OP’s friends and family to complain that OP was not supporting the dog’s operation and to change ONE’s mind.

THE WORST PART

Some of OP’s friends started supporting his ex-wife and calling him a jerk for not supporting the animal. But OP doesn’t owe any help, as he said buying that dog would be bad.

OP also added that she repeatedly said the dog doesn’t belong to her. OP expressed that her ex-wife took the dog with her, and he didn’t see them for the longest time.

SHE SHOULD PAY HERSELF

“I agree, not a jerk. I get that people feel bad for the dog, but OP was against getting this kind of dog and supporting bad breeding practices in the first place.

It doesn’t mean the dog should suffer, but the ex-wife must figure that out independently. She made it clear it was HER dog and took it with her without a second thought about whether OP wanted to see the dog or the dog wanted to see it. It can’t be her dog, then suddenly their dog when it becomes expensive. She can start a go fund or something.”

“Not wrong at all. Not your dog. Not your girlfriend/wife. Not your problem. Let her know if she contacts any more friends and family, she will file for harassment. Tell her to go away.”

PEOPLE ARE DUMB

"WTF!

“I would be so irritated if I were you. That’s so crap that some people are taking her side, and some people get so dumb about this stuff. Not your wife anymore, not your dog either.”
