BACKSTORY
OP’s fiance, Jake, moved in with her 6 months ago. Then OP’s step-daughter, Kari, moved in with them 2 months later.
KARI IS LAZY
Kari is 21 and is extremely lazy. She doesn’t do chores, no cleaning or cooking, not even her own laundry. She leaves a mess everywhere she goes, and doesn’t listen when OP asks her to help out.
KARI’S BEHAVIOR TOWARD OP
Whenever OP tries to talk to her or make her understand, she either rolls her eyes or mocks OP. She continuously dismisses OP’s feelings and doesn’t care what she has to say.
JAKE’S TAKE ON IT
Jake says that Kari is just a kid and that OP should give her time. Jake also says that OP should ease up a little bit, as it isn’t a big deal, and that Kari is going to get better with time.
KARI’S NEW HABIT
Recently Kari developed a new habit of tossing her dishes into the sink, usually from halfway between the dining table and sink, which is several feet.
THE DISHES BREAK
OP’s dishes are all either ceramic or made of glass. So, whenever Kari would throw them, they would get shattered.
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?
OP tried to talk to her several times and asked her not to do it. Even after being asked not to do it several times, Kari continued doing it. Every time she would break new plates, she would giggle and jokingly say that she forgot.
WHAT DID OP DO?
Having had enough, OP ended up telling Jake that Kari needed to pay for the dishes she broke or she could just go and stay with her mom or her grandparents.
JAKE’S REACTION
Jake said that OP was being extremely cruel towards his child. He also added that Kari doesn’t have a job, so kicking her out would be unfair to her.
He lastly said that he would never forgive OP for making Kari feel like this wasn’t her home too.
Now OP wants to know from you if what he did is wrong?
