Having fun and celebrating your heart’s desire is fine, but spending truckloads of money on things that would probably be used once or twice doesn’t make much sense.
The Original Poster (OP) took it to the forum, and asked “Am I wrong for saying ‘no’ to my wife to be a bridesmaid?”. We want to know from you.
BACKSTORY
OP was invited to be the ‘best man’ at his brother’s wedding. His wife was invited to be one of the bridesmaids.
WHAT WERE THE BRIDE’S EXPECTATIONS?
The bride was expecting OP’s wife to get a new wardrobe for the bridal showers, bachelorette party, rehearsal, and reception dinner on top of her bridesmaid’s dress.
The only color she would be allowed to wear to these events is the same lavender color as her bridesmaid dress.
She was even given a few swatches of that material to take shopping. The shoes and makeup needed to match for photos. Even pajamas needed to match.
WHAT WERE OP’S THOUGHTS ON THIS?
The bachelorette party would be a week getaway plus all of the other events; it’s like an additional 10 days of clothes that my wife would never wear again. She normally wears black or dark-colored clothes.
WHAT DID OP DO?
OP brought it up to his brother and said all these don’t make sense.
WHAT WAS THE BROTHER’S REPLY?
The brother said that this was why they were informed a year before the events so that they could arrange all the necessary items.
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?
OP, after discussing it with his wife, informed his brother that his wife would attend the wedding as a guest and not as a bridesmaid.
OP’S BROTHER GOT MAD
OP’s brother got furious and lashed out at OP. He said that they were ruining his fiancé’s wedding plans.
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?
OP’s brother kept pushing him so that he would change his decision, but OP stood firm on his decision.
NO LONGER THE BEST MAN?
OP’s brother then told OP he was no longer his best man because he ruined his fiancé’s dream wedding plans.
OP asked and wants to know from the forum if he is responsible for this situation.

“It’s so incredibly selfish when brides do things like this. It’s unfair to expect everyone to spend what will ultimately be thousands to try and accommodate this type of request. Your brother is being delusional.”, said one user.
I DON’T UNDERSTAND WHY BRIDESMAIDS ARE EXPECTED TO PAY
“I’ve never understood why bridesmaids are expected to pay for their own dresses when the bride is dictating what they will wear. Want me to wear a specific dress that will more than likely go to a thrift store when I’m done? Then pay for it.”, said another user.
